About Issi Russell and IR Bridles
I am a Society of Master Saddlers Master Bridle Maker, Qualified Bridle Fitter and Qualified Assessor having started my saddlery journey in 2000 at Cordwainer's College At Capel Manor. There I achieved my Cordwainer's Diploma in Saddlery and my Higher National Diploma in Saddlery Technology.
I went on to complete my Modern and Millennium Apprenticeships with Stroud Saddlery as well as upgrading to a Master Saddler in 2008. The first ever IR Bridle with a curved and padded headpiece I designed in 2004 to improve comfort for horses.
I continued to work for Laurence there helping to train other apprentices until February 2014 when I became self employed to specialise in bespoke bridle work.
Throughout my career to date, I have entered the Society of Master Saddlers Annual National Saddle, Bridle and Harness Competition, winning prizes on numerous occasions. More information on my achievements and awards can be found here.
In 2013, I was very honoured to receive the prestigious City and Guilds Highly Commended Certificate for the Prince Phillip Medal presented by HRH The Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace. The Prince Phillip Medal is awarded in recognition for, in the Prince’s own words, “those who have travelled the City and Guilds path” and made the most of their talents.
I take great pride and care in using my skills to improve horses' comfort through making correctly fitting bridles. I am a long standing member of the Society of Master Saddlers and also a member of the Equine Fitters Directory. Both memberships bind me to a code of conduct which means you can be assured of high quality bridle work and service.
